Marie Speakman is Shatu Gotine of the Deline First Nation and is fluent in both the North Slavey and English language. Marie has worked for 17 years as Victim Services Worker with the Native Women’s Association of the NWT, and has since started working with MMIWG, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Woman and Girls in June 2017 as the lead for the family support liason unit.
She has travelled to different regions of the NWT bringing awareness of the MMIWG project, sharing circles and the “Beaded Heart” project activities that Marie coordinates within the MMWG project.
Today Marie continues to advocate, support and safely navigate victims to get the service they deserve.
