🧵 Calling All Experienced Sewers – Creative Opportunity with PPE Upcycling!

The Native Women’s Association of the NWT is seeking skilled and experienced sewers to participate in a unique and innovative project that blends traditional craftsmanship with sustainability.

We’re partnering with Rio Tinto-Diavik Diamond Mine to repurpose PPE materials—such as high-visibility gear and other textile workwear—into culturally inspired, functional, or artistic items.

We’re looking for sewers who:

✔ Have strong sewing experience and can work with durable or unconventional materials
✔ Are excited by creative challenges and upcycling
✔ Value cultural expression and sustainability
✔ Want to contribute to a project led by and for Indigenous women

This is a paid opportunity to support environmental responsibility, preserve traditional skills, and help tell new stories through sewing.

🔸 Materials Provided: Reclaimed textile PPE from a local mine site
🔸 Location: Yellowknife, Northwest Territories
🔸 Start Date: Mid-July
🔸 Deadline to Apply: June 30th 2025
